What if one small change could help save the world? Each and every day we all set out to make a positive impact on the planet, but sometimes it feels as if our individual efforts may be too small or insignificant to matter. However, when small actions are multiplied by millions, or billions, the results can be absolutely extraordinary! Whether it's using a reusable water bottle or switching to a bamboo toothbrush, these seemingly insignificant changes can collectively make a significant environmental difference. We all have a part to play in addressing environmental challenges, and even the smallest actions can create a widespread positive change.
Small, everyday actions add up over time leading to a big impact. An average US home uses approximately 1,900 - 2,600 pounds of plastic annually. We've now been on our plastic free journey for a year and a half. If we use the averages, we've effectively eliminated 2,850 pounds of plastic through the last year and half. Now imagine if one other household decided to eliminate their plastic at the same time, now four, eight, sixteen, etc... How big could the impact be? There have been times in our sustainable journey when we begin to question if what we're doing is worth it, but overcoming the "it's too small to matter" mindset is incredibly important. Once others see you on your sustainable journey, who knows who you'll inspire? What we found through eliminating our plastic, is that there is a significant importance in building habits. It's amazing how quickly a habit can become a normal part of your daily life. One of the easiest switches we made was using beeswax wrap in place of plastic wrap. Beeswax wrap is so easy and convenient to work with, it makes me wonder why I ever used plastic to begin with!
There are a ton of small changes you can instill in your life to make a big, lasting impact on the planet. Reducing single use plastics, conserving water, supporting sustainable businesses, and energy saving actions in the home are a few just to start. Ditch the dryer sheets and switch to reusable, wool dryer balls. Get rid of your plastic toothbrush, and switch to a bamboo toothbrush. Try out Swedish dish cloths! Remember, when you support sustainable businesses like us, you're supporting a company that provides a space for these ideas and lifestyle to grow.
